Our WCHS website Photo Album is designed to showcase photos of Wyoming County's people, places and events that members send to share online. Do you have an old picture that you would like to share? Please send it via email attachment for the album.
Include at least your name and a description of the photo subject. The description could include the names of people, location of the photo, dates (even if approximate), how the subject relates to your family if it does, and the source of the photo. Your email address will not be published on the web site unless you specifically request it.
Technical Stuff
Our advice: the best combination of file
size (how much space on the hard drive the file takes up) and resolution (how
many pixels per inch make up the image on the screen) is not a hard and fast
rule, but to keep the file size down -- so
it takes up less space and is faster to transmit -- keep the resolution at
72 ppi, and then the onscreen dimensions of the picture no greater than 1000
pixels (or about 13 inches) in either height or width.
Free Scanning Service
If your old photo is not already
digitized, you may mail or bring it to the society to be added by our crack
team of scanners: Gina Evans and Glenn Stark. They have lots of practice with
the Old
Photo Scanning Project. You may keep the original photo itself, of course,
but we'd like to be able to add the information about it to the database for
future reference. Copies are greatly appreciated, as well; even poor-quality
copies might be improved with software. Anyone may send local photos for this
important project that will add so much to future historical research in our
area.
